Prime Minister Imran Khan and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi have consistently argued that, as a victim of Afghanistan’s instability, it is in Pakistan’s best interest for peace to be established there. It also aligned with the current administration’s geoeconomic and regional connectivity policies.
As a result of decades of terrorism and refugee influx, Pakistan’s economy has suffered major losses, including a decline in commercial activity and a decline in income, according to experts.
The international community recognized Pakistan’s contributions to the Afghan peace process, which included the signing of the US-Taliban peace agreement, the initiation of intra-Afghan dialogue, the adoption of the rules of procedure for Afghan talks, and the establishment of the Afghan-Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Solidarity (APAPPS).

As Foreign Minister Qureshi has already highlighted, if the situation in Afghanistan deteriorated further, more people would be forced to flee the country. However, Pakistan cannot accommodate any more refugees at this time.
Extremism is bred in conditions of poverty and insecurity, which is a well-established truth. If these conditions persisted in Afghanistan, more radical groups would emerge.
