PHA Plans Compiling Data of Trees in its Jurisdictions
Lahore: The Parks & Horticulture Authority (PHA) has decided to compile data on all of the trees and saplings it owns in its controlled areas in order to assess Lahore’s actual need and the authority’s initiatives to improve the situation and overcome related issues.

Mr. Qureshi agreed that trees have remained safe over the past few years, due in part to the absence of major construction projects with the exception of the Firdous Market Underpass.
However, 1,700 mature trees that were to be felled for a Gulberg-to-Motorway motorway project have remained safe since the government de-prioritized the project due to lack of funds and litigation.

Last month, the Lahore High Court, in response to a writ petition filed by the Judicial water Commission chairman, retired Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi, halted the authority’s plan to cut down 45 trees for a couple of development projects.
According to the director general of the PHA, he informed the court that more trees were planted than were uprooted or chopped down.
