Plan to Generate 150MW From City’s Solid Waste
Earlier reports indicated that the energy department in Karachi has finalized the Rubbish-to-Energy Policy 2021, as several companies have approached the provincial government for generating electricity and gas from waste in Jam Chakro.
According to credible sources, the corporations initially expressed interest in generating 150 megawatts of electricity from the city’s trash.
According to them, the policy’s goals and objectives were debated and finalized at a meeting led by Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh.
Participants were informed by the managing director of the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board that there were two landfill sites: 500-acre Jam Chakra and 450-acre Gond Pass.

The minister stated that the government’s primary purpose was to clean up Karachi’s garbage and that using this garbage to generate energy was a very sensible practice.
He stated that the completed Waste to Energy Policy 2021 would be presented for provincial cabinet approval at the next meeting.
