Plan to Revive Safari Park in Cholistan
Bahawalpur: The Punjab Wildlife Department intends to revitalize the Cholistan Safari and nearby Lala Sohanra Park.

Bahawalpur Division Deputy Director of Wildlife Rai Zahid Ali informed the concerned officials that the government planned to hire approximately 200 security inspectors, vouchers, guides, drivers, and security force members who would be provided with motorcycles and other vehicles in order to strictly enforce the supervision of animals housed in enclosures.
He stated that the park would be constructed on 330 acres at a cost of Rs 10 billion as part of the PM’s Clean and Green Pakistan initiative.
In Cholistan, it was suggested to establish a 500-acre sanctuary for the breeding of black bucks. The black bucks originated in the desert, but the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) transferred them to Pakistan in 1962 so they could reproduce in the National Park Lal Sohana with the help of pocket money from Dutch schoolchildren.
Rai Zahid asserted that the existence of eight to ten Indian bustards in Cholistan, as observed by wildlife department personnel on field duty, was evidence of a strategy to protect the species, for which the Punjab government had proposed a sanctuary covering 4,670 square kilometers.
