Plan underway to convert Wahdat Colony and Mayo Garden into Commercial Hub
Lahore: According to news reports, Imran Amin, chairman of the Lahore Central Business District Development Authority (LCBDDA), recently revealed the Punjab government’s decision to demolish and replace Wahdat Colony and Mayo Garden with residential units.

The 2500 occupants of Wahdat Colony, who are primarily government employees, will receive ownership of the newly built apartments after construction is complete.
Under the new proposal, the old colonies will be dismantled and replaced with socially, financially, and technically possible vertical high-rise residential and commercial structures. The British-era Mayo Garden will also be demolished; however, the plans are still in the preliminary phases of construction.
According to the chairman, this decision was made because it was judged a more efficient use of public territory and because of the enormous costs associated with maintaining two colonies.

The proposal is also expected to address the issue of slums in the Wahdat Colony by constructing new multi-story, low-cost houses to remedy this problem. According to Chairman Amin, the government will assess if a particular person deserves a plot in the project.
Prime Minister Imran Khan reportedly inaugurated the LCBDDA, which was founded by the Punjab government to locate and develop commercial properties in the city.
