Port Qasim Authority to Halve Port Charges to Boost Exports
The Cabinet Committee of Transportation and Logistics (CCoTL) resolved at a meeting that the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) will reduce port fees by 50 percent in order to boost exports.
The committee made the conclusion on September 1 during a meeting. It further requested that the PQA investigate the potential of awarding the Pakistan International Bulk Terminal exclusive rights over coal handling.
This investigation is intended to alleviate the congestion situation at PIBT’s lone coal-handling port, which causes delays and high demurrage expenses.
This approach would aid exporters struggling with high production and transportation expenses due to rising oil prices and a devaluation of the local currency.

At the meeting, the officials agreed to form a committee that would investigate the legality of such a contract and make a recommendation to the CCoTL within two weeks.
