ISLAMABAD: According to President Dr. Arif Alvi, children are a country’s most valuable asset and the only thing that can ensure its future.
In his remarks on Monday in honour of Universal Children’s Day, the president urged the government, civil society, human rights organisations, media, UN agencies, community, parents, educators, ulema, and children themselves to unite and contribute positively to the country’s endeavours to enhance the lives of Pakistan’s children.
“Children in Pakistan are susceptible to multiple challenges such as stunting, malnourishment, and limited availability of high-quality education and healthcare facilities,” he stated.

He stated that a number of issues pertaining to children’s safety included child trafficking, child marriage, child labour, physical punishment, child abuse, minors involved in legal disputes, and detrimental customs.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is one of the seven fundamental international human rights conventions that Pakistan has ratified, according to the president.
In addition, Pakistan has accepted the Optional Protocols to the UNCRC on the trafficking of minors, the use of child prostitutes and pornography, and the conduction of child soldiers. He claimed that Pakistan, a signatory to the UNCRC, is still at the forefront of the fight to defend, uphold, and advance children’s rights.
According to him, Pakistan has passed several laws, such as the Zainab Alert Response and Recovery Act of 2020, the Juvenile Justice System Act of 2018, the ICT Child Protection Act of 2018, and the addition of “Child Domestic Labour” to the list of professions covered by the Employment of Children’s Act of 1991.
To defend children’s rights and foster an atmosphere that supports them, organisations including the ICT Child Protection Institute, Zainab Alert Response and Recovery Agency (ZARRA), National Commission on the Rights of Child, and ICT Child Protection Advisory Board have also been established.
According to the president, Pakistan has a clear strategy for investing in children in compliance with its international and national duties. “We consider social justice and equality to be the fundamental pillars upon which a robust society is constructed.”
He stated that, especially for the sake of our country’s future, this required a dedicated social response, with families and communities playing a vital role in this admirable cause. “Parental responsibility for children’s welfare and character development through improved education and training is mandated by our faith, Islam.
He continued, “The Holy Prophet (PBUH) was a child at heart and their most loving carer.
