President Launches SBP Policy for Disabled Persons
Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan rolled out a comprehensive policy to increase the financial inclusion of people with disabilities (PWDs). As major guest, President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi introduced the policy.

This policy effort aims to increase the financial independence of people with disabilities by increasing their access to banking services and giving employment possibilities in banks.
The strategy was developed in partnership with banks and NGOs committed to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities. In this context, SBP directives now require the board of directors of banks to endorse a policy and strategy framework for the financial inclusion of people with disabilities, while management is responsible for ensuring its implementation.
Under the policy framework, banks will provide products and services that cater to the particular needs of all kinds of PWDs, including individuals with physical disabilities, visual impairments, and hearing and speech impairments.

Dr. Reza Baqir, governor of the SBP, stated that the central bank will collaborate with banks to promote the goal that people with disabilities have equal access to and chance to participate in economic activities.
He underlined that banks should design and deliver products and services that respond to the particular needs of people with disabilities, as well as make available physical and assistive technological infrastructure.
