PSL 2025: Sultans finally win their first match — updated points table

Multan Sultans finally opened their account in the PSL 2025 points table with a commanding 33-run win against Lahore Qalandars at the Multan Cricket Stadium. After three straight defeats, this victory brought much-needed relief for Mohammad Rizwan’s side, who now sit sixth in the table with two points.

Batting first, the Sultans produced a batting masterclass, posting an imposing total of 228/5 in their 20 overs. Opener Yasir Khan led the charge with a scintillating knock of 87 runs from just 44 deliveries, including six towering sixes. His aggressive approach set the tone early, supported by Rizwan’s quickfire 32 off 17 balls. Iftikhar Ahmed provided late fireworks, remaining unbeaten on 40 from 18 balls, as Multan’s batsmen took full advantage of Lahore’s struggling bowling unit.

Lahore Qalandars, tasked with chasing 229, started positively with Fakhar Zaman blasting 32 off just 14 balls. However, the innings faltered after quick strikes from Ubaid Shah and Michael Bracewell disrupted the top order. Despite a fighting unbeaten 50 from Sikandar Raza and a rapid 43 from Sam Billings, the Qalandars managed only 195/9 in their 20 overs, falling short of the target.

Ubaid Shah starred with the ball for Multan, claiming 3 wickets for 37 runs, while Usama Mir’s tight spell of 2 for 26 was instrumental in stifling Lahore’s middle-order momentum. The disciplined bowling effort helped the Sultans close out the match and earn a crucial win.

With this result, Islamabad United remains at the top of the PSL 2025 table with 8 points, followed by Karachi Kings on 6. Lahore Qalandars, despite the loss, are third with 4 points. Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators both have 2 points each, with Multan Sultans also joining them on 2 points but with a lower net run rate.

Multan Sultans now prepare for a tough clash against the in-form Islamabad United, while Lahore Qalandars aim to bounce back when they face Peshawar Zalmi at home.
