PTA Reaches 100 Million Milestone for Broadband Subscriptions
Islamabad: According to news reports, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) declared that 100 million broadband subscriptions have been obtained in Pakistan.

PTA reportedly announced this on its official Twitter account. According to the authority, there were fewer than 2 million users in 2012, but following the introduction of 3G services, the figure shot up to 16 million and is now at 100 million.
Also, according to the authorities, 87% of the country’s citizens now have access to internet/broadband connections at some of the lowest costs in the area.

Additionally, it stated that the 3G/4G networks used to deliver the internet services had average download and upload speeds of 17.7 Mbps and 11.3 Mbps, respectively, which was faster than that of other nations in the region.
According to reports, mobile data costs have decreased to only 0.70 percent of GNI (gross national income) per capita, which is much less than the “UN Broadband Commission’s recommendation of less than 2%”.
