The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed internet service providers to improve service quality after identifying slow internet performance across 31 major cities, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).

According to the PTA’s Quality of Service (QoS) assessment for fixed-line broadband networks for Q1 2026, the survey evaluated broadband service providers against key performance indicators such as network reliability, latency, and jitter to measure overall service quality.

While most operators met basic benchmarks including network availability and acceptable latency levels, the report highlighted several performance gaps in parts of the network. PTA noted that heavy internet usage during peak hours has led to congestion, resulting in reduced speeds and a poorer user experience for customers.

The assessment also found higher-than-expected latency in both domestic and international connectivity, indicating inefficiencies in routing and backbone infrastructure that are affecting overall performance.

In response to these findings, PTA has instructed internet service providers to take immediate corrective measures to enhance network efficiency and ensure compliance with QoS standards. The authority reiterated its commitment to improving broadband services nationwide and strengthening user experience.

The detailed QoS report for Q1 2026 has also been made available on PTA’s official website for public access.
