PTI Government Earmarks Rs 12 Billion to Prop up Agriculture
Lahore: To solve Pakistan’s food security issues and transform the nation into a net exporter of food, the government has allocated Rs 12 billion for the agriculture sector in the next fiscal year 2021-22.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin declared during the presentation of the federal budget for 2021-22 that new measures would be taken to secure food security across the nation.
Out of the 12 billion rupees, one billion rupees will be used to combat the locust menace, while another two billion rupees will be used to increase the yield of diverse crops such as rice, wheat, cotton, sugarcane, and pulses.

In addition, Rs 1 billion would be used to increase olive commercial planting. In addition, the government would allocate 3 billion rupees to the maintenance and rehabilitation of waterways.
The chamber was of the opinion that these initiatives will help tackle some of the challenges faced by farmers, thereby guiding the sector’s overall development and boosting agricultural productivity.
Khokhar remarked that there was no mention of electricity rates in the budget.
