Punjab Cities Programs (PCM) Phase II to be Launched by Punjab
Lahore: The Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) will commence Phase II of the Punjab Cities Programme, according to news reports from 2 January (PCM). Beginning in January, it will be rolled out to the 16 municipal committees across Punjab. With the assistance of the World Bank, the PKR 38 billion projects began in 2018 and is expected to be completed in 2024.

According to sources, Jhang, Kamalia, Okara, Kamoke, Muridke, Wazirabad, Gojra, Jaranwala, Bahawalnagar, Burewala, Khanewal, Daska, Hafizabad, Jhelum, Kotaddu, and Vehari are among the 16 participating municipalities. Phase II of the project will include the implementation of water supply, solid waste management, wastewater treatment facilities, sewerage and storm drainage, urban highways, parks, and streetlights.
According to a government official, 44 projects designed and planned in accordance with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Punjab Growth Strategy and Vision 2025 have been completed in various districts and municipalities.

According to sources, the International Development Association (IDA) launched the program in 2018 with performance-based funding of USD 200 million. The purpose of the program is to assist sixteen urban local governments in Punjab in constructing improved urban infrastructure that will stimulate economic growth and development, eliminate extreme poverty, and promote shared prosperity.
