The Government of Punjab has extended its free solar panel scheme by six months to expand access for more households across the province.
The decision was taken on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and the new deadline for the program has been set to December 2026.
Under the revised plan, the provincial government will distribute more than 94,000 solar systems free of cost, with an estimated budget of nearly Rs. 10 billion. The initiative is aimed at providing relief to low-income families facing rising electricity prices.
Officials said the scheme has received an overwhelming response, with over 800,000 applications already submitted from across Punjab. Due to this high demand, the government decided to extend the timeline and increase the scope of the project.
Free Solar Systems Through Balloting
The solar panels will be distributed free of charge to eligible households through a transparent balloting system. The program will cover all districts and tehsils of Punjab to ensure fair and equal access.
Focus on Clean and Affordable Energy
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to promote renewable energy and reduce electricity costs for the public. Officials say the program will help shift thousands of households toward clean and sustainable energy sources.
Originally scheduled to end in June 2026, the scheme has now been extended to meet rising demand and ensure wider distribution across the province.
