The Punjab Food Authority carried out a crackdown against food adulteration in Lahore, taking enforcement action against multiple food businesses for violations related to hygiene, licensing, and unsafe food production.
Key details of the operation:
- 10 food units inspected during the raid
- 3 businesses sealed
- 2 individuals arrested
- 6 outlets fined a total of Rs. 195,000
Major violations found
Officials reported several serious issues, including:
- Use of unhygienic production methods
- Unlicensed food manufacturing and packaging
- Distribution of unsafe or adulterated food products
Seizures and destruction
During the operation, authorities:
- Seized a supplier vehicle carrying around 800 kg of used ghee/oil allegedly hidden during transport
- Destroyed 50 kg of china salt
- Destroyed 40 liters of low-quality soda water
Specific closures
- A soda water plant was sealed after lab tests found its samples unfit, with chemicals reportedly used without proper formulation
- A Sajji restaurant was shut down due to poor hygiene conditions
- Another unit was sealed for operating without a valid license while producing packaged food items
Official stance
A representative of the Punjab Food Authority said the agency is intensifying efforts to eliminate food adulteration and protect public health. They emphasized that strict action will continue against those involved in unsafe food practices.
The operation took place in Lahore, which remains a key focus area for ongoing food safety inspections.
