The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has launched a major initiative to improve English language skills among government school teachers, with plans to train 35,000 educators across the province.
The Spoken English Language Training Program aims to enhance both spoken and written English proficiency according to international standards. The project will be implemented in partnership with language training organization Berlitz and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC).
According to officials, the program is designed to strengthen teachers’ communication skills and improve the overall quality of English language instruction in government schools.
Before the training begins, participating teachers will undergo an assessment to evaluate their current English proficiency levels. Completing the required Google Form assessment has been made mandatory for enrollment in the program.
Training sessions will be conducted at District PECTAA offices and selected schools across Punjab. Classes will be held twice a week, with each session lasting two hours and fifteen minutes.
The School Education Department has directed that all selected teachers maintain full attendance throughout the program, emphasizing that complete participation is essential to achieving the initiative’s learning objectives.
Education experts have welcomed the move, saying the training program has the potential to improve classroom teaching standards, strengthen teachers’ professional development, and help students develop stronger English language skills in the long run.
