The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) has reported receiving more than 89,000 applications through its online portal for the provincial government’s Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat initiative.
The latest progress was presented to Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin during a PHATA Governing Body meeting held in Lahore, where officials reviewed the agency’s performance, upcoming targets and progress on various housing programmes.
For the first time, PHATA also presented its annual budget to the governing body. The minister expressed satisfaction with the agency’s performance and reviewed ongoing efforts to provide housing support to eligible citizens.
Progress on Punjab Housing Schemes
Officials briefed the meeting on the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme as well as the distribution of free residential plots under the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar initiative.
Both programmes are part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to expand access to safe and affordable housing for eligible families.
The governing body also approved the expansion of the Affordable Housing Programme on PHATA-owned land.
Bilal Yasin directed officials to ensure that PHATA regulations are properly implemented across affordable housing developments and that projects comply with applicable requirements.
Punjab Steps Up Action Against Illegal Housing Schemes
The meeting also focused on the issue of illegal housing schemes across the province.
Bilal Yasin directed authorities to accelerate action against housing projects operating outside the legal framework and stressed the need for residential developments to comply with relevant laws and regulations.
The minister also raised concerns about the approval of housing schemes in green areas, noting their potential impact on the environment and urban development.
He said the government would facilitate developers who operate within the law while calling for strict action against individuals involved in fraudulent property transactions, including the illegal sale of property files to citizens.
Authorities were directed to strengthen enforcement of housing regulations to protect buyers and support the development of safer and more affordable residential communities.
