Rawalpindi Cantonments Board Locking Down Schools and Business Centers in Residential Areas

The Rawalpindi Cantonments Board has barred schools and commercial centers from Residential zones.

Friday in residential parts of Rawalpindi, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) closed down 12 schools, private educational institutions, and commercial premises.

According to the sources, RCB official Mr. Qaiser Mahmoud stated that action had been taken against illegitimate private educational institute shops and other commercial properties in residential zones in accordance with the Supreme Court’s judgment. Before commencing the campaign, he also stated that approximately twelve schools and twenty-seven shops in different locations of the cantonment had been sealed after the notification was issued. Through newspaper advertisements, banners, posters, and brochures, the news was advertised.

President of the All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association Punjab, Ilyas Kiani, began sealing private educational establishments, which incited owners, teachers, and parents to go to the streets. The cantonment authorities have been sending owners letters instructing them to relocate their schools and colleges from residential areas by December 31.

He declared that the group will continue to protest against the cantonal authorities’ plan to close private educational institutions in residential areas. This particular judgment will effect approximately four million children and four hundred thousand teachers nationwide. Friday, at the request of the Joint Action Committee, teachers and students conducted a protest demonstration in front of their schools against the expulsion of private educational institutions from cantonment residential zones.

According to the sources, the protests will be recorded from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and will continue on a daily basis against Ibrar Ahmed Khan, a member of the Joint Action Committee. The meeting of the Joint Action Committee was led by Chaudhry Nasir Mahmoud. Malik Azhar Mahmoud, Ibrar Ahmad Khan, Chaudhry Mohammad Tayyab, Mohammad Usman, Malik Naseem Ahmed, Mohammad Asif, Raja Naseer Ahmad Janjua, Hafiz Mohammad Basharat, Shahbaz Qamar, Chaudhry Amjad Zeb, Nadeem Shiraz, and Jameel Ahmed were in attendance at the meeting. They requested the top justice of Pakistan, the head of army staff, and the prime minister to address the situation immediately.
