Rawalpindi Committee Reviews Rs. 323 Billion Development Projects

RAWALPINDI: The District Coordination Committee has reviewed development projects worth more than Rs. 323 billion across Rawalpindi district and directed departments to accelerate work on ongoing schemes.

The meeting was held for the second consecutive day and was chaired by Deputy Commissioner retired Captain Nadeem Nasir and Federal Parliamentary Secretary Daniyal Chaudhry. Officials presented an update on major development activities across the district.

The committee was briefed on 145 projects included in the Annual Development Programme for 2026-27. These schemes have a combined estimated cost of Rs. 312.576 billion and include 140 ongoing projects and five new schemes.

Officials also reported that 297 projects are being implemented under various development programmes. These include projects funded through own-source revenue, the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme and beautification initiatives. The combined value of these projects was reported at Rs. 323.835 billion.

The review covered schemes in several sectors, including roads, healthcare, education, drinking water, drainage, sports and urban services. The Rawalpindi Ring Road and the Developing Resilient Environment and Advancing Municipal Services project were among the major initiatives discussed.

The deputy commissioner directed relevant departments to complete projects within their approved timelines. He also stressed that construction quality should not be compromised during efforts to speed up work.

Officials were asked to carry out regular field inspections and ensure transparent use of development funds. The committee also called for the timely resolution of administrative and technical issues that could delay project implementation.

The federal parliamentary secretary said departments would coordinate more closely at the district level to improve the pace of development work. He stressed that public welfare schemes should receive priority and that allocated funds should be used for their intended purposes.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Social Services Fazail Mudassir, MPAs Malik Iftikhar Ahmed and Malik Mansoor, along with officials from the relevant departments.
