RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has transferred nine road rehabilitation projects, with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 1.6 billion, to the Communication and Works Department for execution.
The decision was taken as the RMC currently has limited capacity to undertake the projects itself. Under the arrangement, the municipal corporation will provide the required funding, while the Communication and Works Department will handle construction and rehabilitation work within the RMC’s jurisdiction.
The Divisional Development Working Party (DDWP) has directed the department to start the projects at the earliest and complete them by December 31.

Nine Roads Included in Rehabilitation Plan
The approved works cover several important roads across Rawalpindi. These include:
- Khyaban-I-Sir Syed Road
- Bokra Road
- 5th Road
- Rawal Road from Ali Nawaz Chowk to Murree Road
- Chandani Chowk Commercial Market Road
- Railway Workshop Road
- China Market-Gordon College Road
- Satellite Town 4th B Road
- Band Khana Road
The road sections included in the programme range from approximately 0.8 to 2.4 kilometres. Individual project costs are estimated at between around Rs. 115 million and Rs. 248 million.
A senior district administration official said the projects were assigned to the Communication and Works Department to accelerate the rehabilitation of major road links in the city.

Additional Road Projects Under Consideration
The Communication and Works Department has also been assigned three additional projects involving the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and District Council.
These include reconstruction of Ch. Bostan Khan Road from Chaklala Scheme-III to the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench, Chakri Road and the road connecting toward Falcon Chowk along Islamabad Expressway.
The three projects have been submitted to the Provincial Development Working Party for approval. If approved, construction will proceed with funding provided by the respective civic bodies.
The divisional administration has instructed the executing department to maintain construction quality and meet the December 31 completion target for the projects currently included in the rehabilitation programme.
