RAWALPINDI: Construction of three new underpasses on Peshawar Road is scheduled to begin in the first week of September as authorities move toward the final phase of Rawalpindi’s signal-free corridor project.

The planned underpasses will be constructed at Qasim Market Chowk, Charing Cross Chowk and Qabristan Chowk, with the three projects carrying a combined estimated cost of Rs. 8.835 billion.

Authorities are currently working on utility shifting and preparing alternative traffic arrangements before construction begins. These preparations are intended to minimise disruption for commuters during the construction period.

Once completed, the underpasses are expected to improve traffic movement along Peshawar Road by reducing interruptions at key intersections and strengthening the signal-free connection toward Motorway Chowk.

The upgraded corridor could also provide smoother access to Islamabad International Airport and major motorway routes, improving connectivity between Rawalpindi, Islamabad and surrounding areas.

The three projects represent another major step in Rawalpindi’s ongoing road infrastructure development and efforts to improve traffic flow across the city’s busy transportation corridors.
