RDA To Develop Master Plan For Rawalpindi City
A master plan for the Rawalpindi District for the next 25 years is being created, according to a news release from the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). The master plan for Rawalpindi is being developed in cooperation between the RDA and the local administration.

Saif Anwar Jappa, Chairman of the Rawalpindi Development Authority, announced that the authority is collaborating with the local government to develop a 25-year master plan for Rawalpindi City. Rawalpindi’s master plan will include developments in all areas of the city. In addition, individual land areas will be designated for the development of housing societies, industrial zones, and central business districts. According to the Chairman of the RDA, no industry, business, or housing society will be permitted to leave the granted premises.

The Rawalpindi master plan will also include the city’s rural areas, as well as the preservation of agricultural land and green spaces for crop production and environmental preservation. Furthermore, Chairman RDA directed authority and local government officials to solicit public feedback and suggestions in order to develop the Peri-Urban Structure Plan. Furthermore, similar to Islamabad, RDA intends to implement zoning in Rawalpindi City.

It is worth noting that the Rawalpindi Development Authority has been working on this master plan for the past two to three years, but progress has been slow. An RDA official also stated that delays in the development of Rawalpindi’s master plan have allowed owners of various housing schemes to construct structures and roads without approval. He went on to say that due to a lack of interest, funds, and attitude, the civic body has also failed to regulate numerous housing projects.

He also stated that the majority of housing schemes in Rawalpindi are being built on smaller plots of land, leaving insufficient space for educational institutions, healthcare centres, parks, and graveyards. Future residents of such housing societies will face difficulties as a result of this. Furthermore, the Rawalpindi Development Authority has specified certain housing society regulations, which include:
- Sewerage treatment plant
- Water filtration plants and purification systems
- Water, gas, and electricity supply
- Area reserved for greenery and plantation
There are only a few housing schemes that adhere to RDA criteria, and the chairman has promised that action will be taken against such housing societies. The lack of a master plan is thought to be the primary cause of these violations.
