Islamabad: According to the report provided to the Senate Standing Committee on Power, recoveries totaling Rs. 1 billion were made in the previous few days. On Thursday, September 14, 2023, a meeting was presided over by Senator Saifullah Abro at the Old PIPS Hall Parliament Lodges. He suggested that the BoDs of numerous authorities be changed by the Power Division. The CEO of the DISCOs was charged with breaking the law and lowering the capacity of the power industry.
Rashid Langrial, the secretary of the power division, tweeted earlier that the anti-power theft effort of the interim administration will recover more than Rs. 1 billion. The sum, however, pales in comparison to transmission and transformation (T&T) losses, which reportedly totaled more than Rs. 520 billion in the previous fiscal year.

The data also shows that between September 7 and September 14, the caretaker government was able to recoup over Rs. 951 million in power theft. While filing 4,241 First Information Reports (FIRs) against the offenders, they also made around 490 arrests. In comparison to the total sum collected up to this point, which is expected to exceed $1 billion, the amount recovered on September 7 was a pitiful Rs. 14 million.
In a further tweet on Wednesday, Mr. Rashid Langrial added that the “crackdown on power theft and chronic default has started paying dividends: cumulative recovery has jumped from PKR 162 million to PKR 796 million; total persons arrested since 7th is 454.” “While PESCO is still lagging behind, QESCO, SEPCO, and HESCO are ahead,” he continued.
The Caretaker Prime Minister, Mr. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has stated that the government would take stern measures against electricity thieves. Along with the provinces and law enforcement, he also oversaw prompt action against electricity dues thieves. He made it clear that there should be no exceptions when it comes to going after electrical defaulters and thieves.
