Ring Road Project Not Included in ADP
Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project was not included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) of the Punjab government, and the project’s future is uncertain despite government assertions that the project will be initiated with a new alignment.

The project was halted in April after an investigation into the R3 scandal was launched against former commissioner and retired captain Mohammad Mehmood and other officials for allegedly altering the alignment.
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, took notice on April 27 of the claimed realignment adjustments to the much-needed Rawalpindi Ring Road project. These modifications not only added Rs 25 billion to the project’s price tag, but also benefited certain private housing societies.

According to the Punjab Annual Development Programme, only Rs 543.4 million was allocated for five major projects in Rawalpindi: Rs 50 million for the remaining feasibility and detailed design of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project’s PC-II, Rs 60 million for the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project Management Unit, and Rs 300 million for the remodelling of Kutchery Chowk and the construction of the Defence Chowk flyover in front of Shifa Eye Hospital.
Rs 69 million for three pedestrian bridges on Airport Road, Rs 50 million for the Dry Port from Rahimabad to Chaklala Railway Station, and Rs 60 million for the construction of the Project Management Unit for the Leh Expressway and flood channel.
