RMC Declares 88 Buildings Dangerous for Living and Business
RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) assessed the district’s residential and commercial structures’ monsoon resistance and found 86 of them to be dangerous.
The cantonment board also carried out a survey before of the monsoon to determine which structures needed to be demolished or rebuilt.

66 residential and 22 commercial buildings were deemed unsafe for habitation and business operations by the RMC survey. 90% of the buildings were constructed before the division.
Over twenty families live in several of these structures. The owners of these structures have been informed by the authorities.
The locals have been informed that they must leave the damaged buildings since monsoon weather could force them to collapse and harm life and property.
People who ignore the warning and refuse to leave will face legal consequences under the Local Government Act.

While this was going on, the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board surveyed the residences and business establishments close to the rain and storm water canals. The survey evaluated the state of the structures, identifying those that needed repair or restoration as well as those that could need to be demolished.
The survey will be finished soon, according to the executive officer of the cantonment, after which notices will be issued in accordance with Section 126 of the Cantonment Act of 1924.

They said owners of structures that needed to be evacuated or demolished will get notices. Building owners who are close to Nullah Leh and other rain drains must also abide by this instruction.
Prior to making any repairs, the owners of these buildings would have to notify the cantonment authority.
