Karachi: The Sindh Cabinet has approved development projects worth PKR 11.198 billion to improve road infrastructure and traffic flow across Karachi under the provincial development programme.
According to an official statement issued by the Chief Minister’s House, the projects are part of the Karachi Mega Project and will be funded through the New Development Initiatives allocation under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025-26.
The approved schemes include the rehabilitation and improvement of several major roads, including Haji Ibrahim Essa Road, Haji Camp Road, Korangi Link Road, and roads connecting Clifton to Marine Drive. Development work will also be carried out on Mehran Road and Pajero Road in Scheme-33, Korangi Creek Airbase Road, the extension of Jinnah Avenue in Gulzar-i-Hijri, and Baldia Stadium Road linking Shahrah-i-Orangi with Hub River Road.
The cabinet also approved the construction of two major bridges at Power House Chowrangi in North Karachi and 4-K Chowrangi in Surjani Town to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity in key parts of the city.
To begin work on the projects, the cabinet sanctioned an initial release of PKR 560 million, representing around five percent of the total project cost, from the current fiscal year’s ADP allocation.
The meeting was chaired by the chief minister, who directed relevant departments to ensure the timely execution and completion of all approved projects.
In a separate decision, the cabinet approved PKR 8.824 billion for water supply and drainage projects across Sindh. The funds will be used to improve water and sanitation infrastructure in both urban and rural areas of the province.
The cabinet also approved a new mechanism for receiving Sindh’s 12.5 percent natural gas royalty in kind on a field-to-field basis instead of entirely in cash. Officials informed the meeting that the move could generate an additional PKR 26 billion in annual revenue for the province.
