RS 8 Billion Projects Launched to Provide Broadband Services
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has reportedly announced seven new projects worth over Rs 8 billion, including Rs 3.5 billion for Balochistan, to provide Broadband services to over 2.5 million people in unserved and underserved areas of the four provinces.

According to a press release, the projects were accepted at the 81st meeting of the Universal Service Fund (USF). Since then, the number of optical fiber cable and internet service delivery projects has reached an all-time high of 56, with a total cost (subsidy) reaching Rs 52 billion. The meeting was presided over by the Secretary of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications and the USF Board of Directors Chairman.
Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority Major General (Retired) Amir Azeem Bajwa, Member of Telecom Muhammad Umar Malik, CEO of Telenor Irfan Wahab Khan, Imran Akhtar Shah, Kokab Iqbal, Sibte Hassan Gardezi, and other officials were present. The USF Chief Executive Officer, Haaris Mahmood Chaudhry, provided the Board with an in-depth overview of the initiatives.
Syed Amin-Ul-Haque, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications congratulated the USF Board on the inauguration of the projects and said that the MOITT and its subsidiaries, particularly the Universal Service Fund, continued to function regardless of the political climate.
He asserted that all initiatives launched by the current administration would be finished within the allotted time frame, and that only the lowest-bidding telecom operators would be chosen for all projects in accordance with the criteria.

Earlier in the conference, Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Secretary of Information Technology and Chairman of the USF Board, stated that providing broadband services to underserved and unserved areas of the country is equally as vital as giving services to inhabitants of big cities.
