RUDA to Rehabilitate River Ravi’s Aquifer, Curtail Smog
According to news reports, the River Urban Building Authority (RUDA) of Lahore wants to replace the water aquifer in the drying Ravi River, which will also help alleviate the city’s ongoing smog and pollution concerns.

RUDA made these assertions during a Lahore High Court (LHC) dispute involving the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) assessment for the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) master plan.
The RUDA council stated the court that if the project is finished, the reservoir capacity of the city’s lakes, woods, and barrages will increase by up to 270 billion litres. The development of the project will also address the city’s housing, transportation, water supply, education, health, sewage, solid waste disposal, and congestion issues, putting it on the list of emerging and planned cities throughout the world.

The RUDA council maintained that this is the only strategy capable of reducing air pollution, and that the initiative will also enhance the environment by planting over six million trees in addition to the urban forest.
It is stated that the project would also assist in meeting fifty percent of Lahore’s need for potable water. Justice Shahid Karim of the LHC ordered the government to submit the project’s master plan to the court by September 29.
