Safe City Officials Told to Promote Police in Curbing Crime
Islamabad: Officials of Islamabad’s Safe City Project have been asked to assist the capital’s police in curbing crime against property.

The Safe City Project is being asked to alert police when it detects crime or suspicious activity in the city and to help police track and identify criminals.
A senior law enforcement official previously told Dawn that the Safe City Project provided police assistance in tracking down and identifying perpetrators at the request of operations and investigative departments.

Officers will check the status of suspects and suspicious vehicles at the scene, he added.
The capital’s police have asked the interior ministry to increase the number of surveillance cameras and staff for the Safe City project, he said, adding police are looking for a further 4,000 cameras in the city. The Safe City project was approved in 2009, and since then the capital has grown and the population has increased significantly, IGP said, with 1,905 cameras now installed on various roads, highways, critical and sensitive facilities and markets.
