SDG Projects to Produce Employment, Funding Economic Growth
Islamabad: According to news reports, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs organized a two-day virtual “SDG Investment Fair 2021” in which Pakistan presented eight projects that had a strong chance of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) and addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Fareena Mazhar, the secretary of the Board of Investment (BOI), represented Pakistan and spoke to the meeting about the amenities and services the BOI offers to investors.
Across numerous industries, including transportation and communication, energy, including renewable energy, water supply and sanitation, education, health care, and information technology, BOI currently has SDG-aligned projects totaling USD 14 billion.

The two-day fair’s projects were chosen from a variety of industries, including infrastructure, hydropower, a center for the development of medical devices, a manufacturer of silicon solar PV panels, a company that produces agriculture drones and smart farms, university technology parks, and IT incubation facilities all over Pakistan.
The secretary also discussed the processes’ flexibility and how Pakistan has improved the ease of doing business. She added that Pakistan now offers e-visa services to more than 174 nations around the world and that the process of starting a corporation there just takes one day.
