Gemstone Lab to Be Established in Peshawar
Peshawar: To advance the mining industry, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government approved the establishment of a laboratory for precious gemstones as well as a technical training and certification facility.

According to a recent announcement, the choice was decided during a meeting of the Mineral Investment Facilitation Authority presided over by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
The gathering was informed that private sector businesses would be hired to set up the laboratory to create the technical and professional know-how for processing unprocessed gemstones and transforming them into polished, branded products to be introduced internationally.

The conference decided to create a committee under the direction of the additional chief secretary to look into the issue and make recommendations for controlled mining activities in areas designated as guzara forests after discussing issues relating to mining activities in those areas.
Members of the committee would be the administrative secretaries of the departments of minerals, forests, law, and tourism.
Mahmood Khan stated at the time that his government placed protecting the forests and maximizing their cover as one of its highest priorities.

He also emphasized the importance of utilizing mineral resources without harming trees.
