SEZs Along Ring Road Dropped as RDA Approves Mega Projects
Rawalpindi: Following approval from the Punjab Planning and Development Board, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) formally approved two mega projects, including the Leh Nullah Expressway and the Rawalpindi Ring Road, but abandoned plans to establish special economic zones along the Ring Road.
Tariq Mehmood Murtaza, chairman of the RDA governing body, presided over the meeting, which took place in the commissioner’s office. Commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah, who additionally holds the position of RDA director general, was also present.
The 56th meeting of RDA’s governing body was held. Mr. Mehmood stated that two massive projects, including the Rawalpindi Ring Road, the Leh Expressway, and the Flood Channel, are a gift from the government to the inhabitants of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project’s PC-I for land acquisition worth Rs 6 billion has been granted, while its construction PC-I worth Rs 25 billion has been cleared and sent to the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for final clearance.
Originally, the provincial government intended to build SEZs along Rawalpindi Ring Road and relocate grain, vegetable, and fruit markets, as well as goods transport services and warehouses, to these areas.
