Sindh Aims for 4 Million Tons’ Wheat Production

In lower Sindh, wheat harvesting has started, and owners of chakkis and roller flour mills are actively buying wheat.

The province has surpassed its wheat acreage target for 2020–21, according to a local report that examined official data, as 100.01 percent of sowing was accomplished against 1,200,160 hectares (ha).

The current season’s grain production goal was set by the government at four million tonnes. Due to the size of the grain, farmers anticipate a healthy crop of wheat.

It is important to note that, despite producing 3,848,105 tonnes, or 1.3 percent more than the intended 3,800,000 tonnes, Sindh fell short of the sowing goal set for last year by 1.4 percent, as 1,134,219 ha rather than 1,150,000 ha were put under cultivation.

The local government has announced that the provincial food department will purchase 1.4 million tonnes of wheat at a support price of Rs 2,000 per 40 kilogrammes. However, the rate has not yet been informed. However, the rate has been set by the federal government at Rs. 1,650 for each 40kg.
