Governor Sindh Discuss Regularization of Construction Ordinance
Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah reportedly met with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail to discuss the proposed regularization of the Sindh Construction Ordinance 2021. The Sindh government drafted the proposed law to legitimize and sanction illegal constructions and housing schemes on state property.
The conference was called after Pakistan’s highest court authorized the Sindh government to form a commission similar to the one established by Punjab to regulate 6,000 illegal housing complexes. Murtaza Wahab, a spokesperson for the Sindh government, stated that the Construction Ordinance 2021 was enacted to avert a humanitarian catastrophe, since the destruction and demolition of illegal structures would result in housing issues for millions of Karachi residents.

According to the law, a six-member body led by a former Supreme Court judge or a Sindh High Court (SHC) judge will be responsible for inspecting and penalizing illegally built structures.
