The Sindh government has earmarked over Rs. 100 billion for Karachi in its 2026–27 budget, targeting major investments in transport, water supply, sanitation, healthcare, education, and urban infrastructure.
Presenting the provincial budget in the Sindh Assembly, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the development plan aims to reduce traffic congestion, strengthen civic services, and accelerate Karachi’s urban transformation.

He noted that Karachi currently has 816 ongoing development schemes worth Rs. 644.3 billion. For the next fiscal year, the city has been allocated more than Rs. 100.19 billion, including 167 major projects valued above Rs. 500 million and 110 mega projects exceeding Rs. 1 billion each.
A significant share of funding has been directed toward key infrastructure initiatives such as the Greater Karachi Sewerage Plan (S-III), the Lyari Transformation Package, and hundreds of ongoing development schemes across the city.
Transport upgrades include new flyovers, underpasses, and improvements at key traffic points, along with major allocations for BRT projects such as the Red and Yellow Line corridors. The government also plans to expand Karachi’s public transport fleet with additional electric and double-decker buses and introduce automated fare collection systems across major transit networks.

In water and drainage, funds have been allocated for storm-water management projects, rehabilitation of major drains, expansion of supply lines linked to the K-IV project, and upgrades to pumping stations. Waste management improvements include new garbage transfer stations and upgrades to landfill sites.
The budget also sets aside funding for healthcare and education projects, including new medical and engineering institutions and expansions of existing facilities. Officials said the broader goal is to improve urban living standards and strengthen Karachi’s long-term infrastructure capacity.
