South Punjab Secretariat Got Formal Powers After Amendments
Lahore: According to Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar, the Punjab Government Rules of Business 2011 have been changed to allow the bureaucracy in south Punjab to address the concerns of the local populace.

The decision was made during the province’s 47th cabinet meeting. In accordance with the decision, Bahawalpur would serve as the South Punjab Secretariat for eleven districts. The districts in South Punjab include Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Khanewal, Layyah, Lodhran, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur and Vehari. The Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) will be permitted to transfer BS-17 grade personnel following the revisions. Additionally, seventeen departments have been relocated to the province of South Punjab.

South Punjab has been granted a budget of PKR 190 billion (33% of the total), according to the minister. Similarly, the newly appointed and empowered ACS will be able to make annual confidential reports of secretaries and govern the south side of the province.
The cabinet also approved the establishment of the Punjab Commission for Illegal Housing Societies, which would be led by Justice Azmat Saeed upon his retirement.
