Supplementary Budget Approved of Additional 4 Mn Families
Islamabad: According to a news report, the government has sanctioned PKR 26.5 billion to give one-time cash assistance of PKR 12,000 to an additional four million households due to the unemployment brought on by COVID-19.

Under the Ehsaas Kafalat, the recipients will get a share of PRK 12,000 every six months. The projected price tag for this one-time aid is PKR 48 billion, and the extra recipients will be chosen using the ongoing National Socioeconomic Registry Survey (NSER), with a high eligibility criteria while keeping below the poverty line.
The Ehsaas emergency program’s Second Phase was approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), a committee of the Cabinet chaired by Minister of Finance Shaukat Tarin, to extend the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) to 8 million families.

It was agreed that the government would reimburse the PKR 12 billion spent under the BISP. The 22 billion PKR in savings will be used to pay an additional 1.8 million beneficiaries. ECC also consented to a PKR 26.4 billion additional budget to cover the demands of the remaining 2.2 million in the upcoming fiscal year.
To reduce the effects of COVID-19, the federal government launched the Ehsaas Emergency Cash (EEC) programme last year.
