Talks with IMF for $1 billion Loan Release Scheduled on Oct 4
On October 4, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Pakistan will discuss the delivery of a $1 billion loan tranche.
According to local media reports, the Parliament will address an increase in power rates, a review of the health of Pakistan’s economy under Article-IV, and the adoption of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Amendment Bill 2021.
If the negotiations are successful, Pakistan will get $1 billion from the IMF as part of the $6 billion programme that, according to the original plan, will end in September next year.

Previously in June, Pakistan and the IMF had disagreements on the increase of energy rates and the imposition of additional taxes; hence, a consensus was not reached for the completion of the sixth review. In addition, the July 7 meeting of the IMF Board was postponed since Pakistan did not accept their criteria.
