Tarin Rehearse to Fix IMF Conditions before Sixth Review
Mr. Shaukat Tarin, the financial adviser to the prime minister, reaffirmed Islamabad’s resolve to meet the IMF’s imposed criteria as the final step prior to the sixth review on January 12.

According to the sources, Mr. Tarin indicated that the mini-budget eliminated a Rs350 billion indemnity tax. In addition, the sources said that the monetary and reform measures agreed upon with the IMF had been implemented. Precautions are taken to safeguard the project bundle. During Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, both the additional finance and SBP measures were also passed.
He added, “We will present it to the legislature the same day in the afternoon.” The finance ministry said that the sixth review of the $6 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF) by the executive board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would occur on January 12.

Tarin was sworn in as a senator on Friday after being elected earlier in the week to fill a vacant seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The oath was administered by Senate Chief of Staff Saddiq Sanjrani. The legislature was free to debate bills introduced by the federal government after review by the law ministry.
The sources indicate that the law ministry has evaluated the Finance Supplemental Bill of 2021. The Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases (CCLC) will assess the SBP Amendment Bill, 2021, under the supervision of the chair of the law minister draft, despite the government having apparently concluded its conversation with the lending organization on this topic.
