Top 8 Social Media Platforms of Pakistan Revealed by PTA
ISLAMABAD, January 20, 2023- Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has revealed the top 8 social media platforms of Pakistan.
The number of Pakistani social media accounts has exceeded 217 million. According to research by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Pakistanis have 217.1 million social media profiles, which translates to 70,1 million active social media users. YouTube ranks first in Pakistan with 71.7 million users in 2021-22, while Facebook ranks second with 57.5 million users. SnackVideo boasts 20 million Pakistani users compared to Snapchat’s 18.8 million.
In Pakistan, there are 18.3 million TikTok users, 15.6 million Instagram users, and 7.6 million LinkedIn account holders. Other social media platforms, such as Bigo and Likee, have 4,2 million profiles, compared to Twitter’s 3,4 million.
According to the authority, the number of social media users in Pakistan has increased due to PTA and the Pakistani government offering assistance and an enabling environment to internet users and IT enterprises. The impact of PTA’s assistance and facilitation of the social media sector in accordance with the government’s ‘Digital Pakistan’ goal is boosting meaningful connectivity and accessibility. Social media businesses and other stakeholders were consulted in drafting new social media regulations. According to the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight, and Safeguards) Rules, 2021, PTA has constantly encouraged social media businesses to register with the authority.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has previously reported that discussions with TikTok representatives have concluded. Within the following few weeks, the business will establish an office in Islamabad. Additionally, Facebook will open an office in Pakistan. At both the Ministry and PTA levels, engagement with various social media firms is underway.
