US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire following direct discussions with key regional stakeholders.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, after which both sides agreed to immediately halt hostilities.
The development comes after recent diplomatic efforts in Washington, where representatives from both countries reportedly met for the first time in decades, alongside US officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump further said he has directed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan “Razin” Caine to coordinate with both sides to help establish a more durable peace agreement.
He also described the ceasefire as part of a broader effort to resolve what he referred to as his “10th war,” following recent diplomatic activity involving Iran through Pakistan.
