Up-to-date ‘Prisons Complex’ to be Constructed
The Punjab Prisons intends to create a state-of-the-art ‘Prisons Complex’ on the outskirts of the provincial capital so that ‘criminals could be changed into a valuable organ of society’. This is in accordance with global advances and reforms.

In an interview with Business Recorder, Punjab Prisons Director Development Tahir Khan stated that the prisons department has requested Rs 600 million in the Annual Development Program (ADP) for 2021-22 for the development of the state-of-the-art ‘Prisons Complex’ at Sua Asil.
The director stated that the prisons department intends to construct an administration building, barracks, libraries, school playing fields and technical and vocational training facilities, a waiting area, and sports complexes in the first phase.
According to Tahir Khan, facilities such as schools, libraries, kitchens or mess halls, mosques, waiting areas, and sports complexes will be built separately for women, juveniles, and adult convicts within the prisons complex.

Another senior officer, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the purpose of the prisons complex was to provide better facilities to under-trial and convicted inmates, including women and minors, in accordance with global developments and reforms, so that they could be transformed into a useful part of society.
