Wapda Begins Construction on Kachhi Canal Extension
Following the awarding of the contract and mobilisation of the contractors, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has begun construction on the extension of the Kachhi Canal.

In addition, a 32-kilometer-long water distribution system would be built in the command area to irrigate an additional 60,000 acres of land in the Balochistan district of Dera Bugti. The extension is expected to be finished by August 2022.
To irrigate 72,000 acres of land, WAPDA has already developed a 363-kilometer-long main canal and an 81-kilometer-long allied water distribution system. Dera Bugti district in Balochistan is where the canal with a discharge capacity of 6000 cu secs, which begins at the Taunsa Barrage in the Muzaffargarh district of Punjab, enters. Kachhi Canal is an essential project for alleviating poverty in distant and underdeveloped regions of Balochistan by fostering the growth of irrigated agriculture and an agro-based economy in the province.
