WB to Help Improve Pakistan’s Climate Resilience
Islamabad: The Regional Vice President of the World Bank Group for the South Asian Region, Hartwig Schafer, and the Ministry of Climate Change have committed to work together to strengthen Pakistan’s climate resilience against the devastation of global warming, such as floods and heat waves.

Regional Vice President of the World Bank Group for South Asia, Hartwig Schafer, met with the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam, and agreed to assist Pakistan in achieving environmental sustainability by increasing investment in green and clean energy sectors and enhancing the country’s technical expertise.
According to a news release, there was also agreement to increase the capacity of the food, water, agricultural, forestry, and clean and renewable energy sectors.
Hartwig Schafer also reminded the PM’s aide that the International Development Association (IDA) was the section of the World Bank that assisted the world’s poorest nations, and that the future IDA window of the WB will have 30 percent of its development money tied to climate change co-benefits.

According to him, future development assistance for all nations must be examined through the prism of climate change, and the World Bank Board has resolved to link future development funding with climate performance.
