WhatsApp Will Soon Let You Convert Voice Messages Into Text
WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is introducing a new feature that will allow users to transcribe voice messages. This new addition is part of the numerous updates that the company has recently made to its status feature. The development of this feature was first reported in September 2021, but for unknown reasons, the work was temporarily interrupted. However, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS has revealed that the company has resumed work on this feature.
The news was first reported by the WhatsApp feature tracker blog WABetaInfo, which posted a screenshot showing that WhatsApp has started working on a notice that will appear when transcription is not available for voice messages. The notice informs users that transcripts may not work if the app does not recognize any words or if the transcripts are not set to the language in the sender’s messages. It also provides an option to change the language for transcriptions.

It’s worth noting that these voice note transcriptions are processed locally on the device by downloading the necessary language packs and are never shared with WhatsApp or Apple. This ensures that the content of voice notes remains confidential and accessible only to the users. However, it’s important to note that this feature may only be available on recent versions of iOS.
This new feature will come in handy for users who receive a voice message but are unable to listen to it immediately, such as when playing music over Bluetooth speakers. With the ability to transcribe the message, users will be able to read the message instead of having to wait until they can listen to it.
There is currently no official launch date for this feature, but since it has entered beta testing, it is expected to be released soon.
