Work on Dadhucha Dam’s Spillways Resumes
According to press reports, the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has ordered the restart of work on the Dadhocha dam’s spillways.

The Additional Advocate General of Punjab, Qasim Ali Chohan, said that 75% of the work on the spillways had been finished; however, due to directions from the Lahore High Court, the construction work was halted (LHC).
To shed further light on the topic, he stated that the initial land acquisition notification was issued in 2010. A second notification was made in 2020, which was challenged in court. In April 2021, the LHC Rawalpindi Bench imposed an injunction prohibiting the Punjab Irrigation Department from continuing construction on the Dadhocha Dam.
Rabnawaz and other landowners filed a petition claiming that the government was not offering a fair market price.

The land acquisition case of Dadhucha Dam was considered by a three-member Supreme Court panel chaired by Justice Umar Ata Bandial. It was determined that work will resume on the spillways of Dadhocha Dam.
When completed, the dam will have a storage capacity of 45,000 acres and provide Rawalpindi people with 35 million gallons of water.
