Work on RS 78bn ADB-funded Red Line Project to Begin Soon
The city administration of Karachi has requested that the gas, power, water, and other utilities hasten the relocation of their respective pipelines and other infrastructure along the path of the Red Line bus rapid transit (BRT) project so that construction can commence in December.
Representatives of the utilities were reportedly also asked to assist with the rerouting of pipes so that construction on the route of the Red Line BRT, the first transportation system in the country to use bio-methane derived from animal waste as a fuel source, could begin on schedule.
Red Line, now known as the Karachi Breeze Red Line Project, is a corridor that extends from Model Colony in Malir to the Mazar-i-Quaid and Jinnah Avenue, where it will link with the Green Line corridor at Numaish.

The operational design is being drafted by Exponent Engineering Pvt Ltd, while the detail design is being developed by Mott MacDonald Pakistan (MMP). National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak) and the Integrated Transport Planning Limited are responsible for institutional development and capacity building.
It is anticipated that as many as 300,000 people will utilize the corridor every day once it is completed.
