World Bank, and Punjab Government About to Develop Water Projects

According to news sources, World Bank Country Director Najy Benhassine stated in Islamabad that the World Bank has granted $442 million for the development of water and sanitation facilities in various regions of Punjab.

The initiative is anticipated to assist 6 million people in 200 of the province’s most needy areas.

By renovating existing projects and establishing new ones, the Punjab Rural Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Project (PRS WSSP) will help increase access to water supply and sanitation.

The overall benefit will be a reduction in waterborne infections and delayed child growth resulting from insufficient access to clean water. According to the World Bank’s statement, the Country Director remarked that the initiative is designed to enhance equitable and sustainable access to water resources in the province’s most vulnerable and drought-prone areas.

In addition, the paper supplied by the WB indicates the following expenditures:
In total, sixteen districts of Punjab would be included in the project.
Eight of the eleven districts will be located in South Punjab.
25% of the total districts will be located in each North and South Punjab.

Overall, the project will enable nearly six million people by increasing the availability of water to 2,000 settlements. In addition to infrastructure construction, the project will initiate local community training programmes that will enable the local community to operate, maintain, and manage the project independently.
