YouTube Soon Start Charging Money for High Video Quality
According to experts, YouTube is exploring new sources of revenue as ad revenue declines due to increasingly stringent ad tracking laws worldwide.
In response to this difficult situation, YouTube is testing a new feature that may require users to pay for certain features that were previously free. The feature being tested is a “premium video quality option” that runs videos at 1080p with a higher bitrate.
This is similar to a feature tested last year, which required users to upgrade to YouTube premium to view videos in 2160p and 60 FPS. These tests suggest that YouTube may soon make the premium video quality option a paid feature exclusively for premium users.
Prior to the testing, there were already suspicions that YouTube had reduced the bitrate for 1080p videos. With the appointment of new CEO Neil Mohan, we may see significant changes to YouTube’s features and revenue streams in the future.
This move has sparked controversy among YouTube users. Some users argue that they should not have to pay for a feature that was previously available for free. They also fear that this move could be the start of YouTube monetizing other previously free features.
Despite the controversy, it is important to note that YouTube is a business, and like any other business, it needs to generate revenue to sustain its operations. The company has been investing heavily in creating original content, including movies, TV shows, and documentaries, to compete with other streaming services. This move is part of YouTube’s strategy to diversify its revenue streams and become less reliant on advertisement revenue.
As YouTube’s new CEO Neil Mohan takes over, it will be interesting to see how the company evolves in the coming years. One thing is for sure; YouTube will continue to be a dominant player in the online video industry, and its success will depend on its ability to adapt to changing market conditions and user needs.
