Absence of Bridges on Bahrain Kalam Road Irks Travelers
Residents of Kalam and neighboring areas said the government was unable to build a bridge that was swept away on the road connecting Bahrain and Kalam in 2010 floods.

They said the lack of bridges is causing great inconvenience and difficulty for both locals and tourists.
They said 32 kilometers of road with 12 bridges were destroyed in the 2010 floods. They added that work to rebuild the road began in 2017 with funding from the Asian Development Bank.

About 23 people were killed and 134 injured in these accidents this year, according to records. Another Kalam resident, Nazir Ahmad, said roads were often blocked due to the lack of traffic police.
Local residents said construction work was underway on the bridge, but Federal Communications Minister Murad Saeed ordered the work to be halted on the pretext that inferior materials were being used.
Several attempts were made to talk to Union Minister Murad Said to obtain his version, but neither he nor his personal assistant received a call.

However, when asked, Deputy Commissioner Junaid Khan said the bid would be approved.Once the bid is given to a new contractor, he added, work on the bridge will begin immediately.
